An C18th style Swedish style corner wall cupboard with a typically ornate carved acanthus cornice. The cornice is painted in a typical striated fashion with bands of colour. The door panel is painted with a copy of an C18th 'Kurbits' design. A piece like this is really to use as a piece of wall art.
'Kurbits' were great folk art; the painters painted scenes from the bible, but with all the main characters in C18th attire and set in C18th landscapes. Another typical feature was their use of vibrant & fantastical plant and flower designs sprouting up all over the pictures.
These cupboards often used pintle hinges, a surface mounted lift off hinge type. Size 72cm x 46cm x 24cm. Though shown as a corner cupboard, it could easily be a standard wall cupboard. Or without the dodor it becomes a lovely display shelf unit. Made to order.
The interior has been painted in a typical C18th Swedish style. The wood was given a wash coat of paint, allowing the grain to show through. Then a simple wavy diagonal pattern was painted over the surface.
