Mackintosh was always ahead of the game when it came to design. His last great interiors were at Derngate in Northampton, and were years ahead of Art Deco styling. The living room fireplace at Derngate, and to a lesser extent the front door, are pure Art Deco stepped style. The idea for these mirrors came from the fire surround, which was painted black. Also shown are 3 other colours; white Mack is well associated with, green was used for some of the furniture in the kitchen at Derngate. The light blue was from the blue china room at Ingram Street, in Glasgow, which has many similarities with Derngate interiors. The mirror frames are heavily stepped, as well as the shape, and painted. Made to order.
