The inspiration for these bookcases came from a less well known stand he designed for Pettigrew & Stephens, for the Glasgow International Exhibition 1901, shown below. The designs are definately in the 'spook school' era of his design work, with the elongated verticals with carved decorative finials. The curved bottom edges of the doors echo the display stand shapes. We design and make new pieces using Mackintosh's ideas as inspiration, he would have respected that more than just straight copying his work. With just a few modules that can be combined in many combinations to give a wide range of uses. We make these to order, and don't disclose sizes or prices until we've agreed a spec with a customer. We've shown a selection of wood and colour options you could have.

We shown several designs below that can be used for single bookcases upto larger runs and even media units. The top was extended in height with applied carved & painted decorative pieces, so typical of Mack at this period. The bookcases are painted white but could be another colour or a wood finish. For use as a display unit you might prefer to omit the back, so the wall is visible behind it. The single bays are suitable for alcoves. Bespoke made to order. We can add further Mackintosh details if you want, as shown on the 2 door sideboard/ drinks cabinet above. The handles adapted the oval carved detail at the top of some of the verticals and split it for a authentic looking handle. Plus the squares paited pink on the ends. But it is more economical to use off the shelf handles, such as these hammered antique brass handles, which suit the style well.

This bookcase design adapts very well to a media unit, as shown below. The false back behind the TV hides all the cables. We could even fit the TV on a pull out and rotate arm for easier viewing. We can fit any type of door handles you want, but we've shown these designs with hammered antique brass round handles, to make a bit more visual impact and echo the spade shaped finials in size.
