The bed is a copy of an C18th french provincial bed, quite a common design that would have been found in wealthier farmhouses & houses. It is large and solid, but with a definate country elegance ( almost Shaker in style ). It is quite difficult to photograph, being quite large; we're awaiting better photographs ( these don't do it justice ).

The 2 foot posts are very elegant as they are mainly turned ( the head posts are square, as they're not really seen). See the photos below showing the turned legs. The bed was finished as the original in a dark brown finish, but it could look equally good left natural pine waxed or painted (as they often were - light grey being popular in France & sweden).

We can supply the valance and curtains in a chequed country fabric, as here, or in your own choice of fabric. A good combination we like is a chequered valance with muslin curtains, which gives a lighter modern look with country style. The valance can have a straight bottom edge or scalloped as here.

The bed takes a standard UK double 4' 6" x 6'3" mattress ( but could be made to take a 5' x 6' 6" mattress ). The height is 7'. The bed requires some straight forward assembly ( requiring 2 people ). Made to order ( the mattress, valance and curtains are not included, although we can supply the valance & curtains if requested ).
