This range of wardrobes are truly stunning, being both practical and a piece of artwork in their own right, with the doors being treated as a large canvas for colourful Abstract painted designs. The design was inspired by a Wright design for a large screen, which was painted by one of his right hand men Gene Masselink in the 1950's. By that time Wright and Masselink were bringing some interesting and colourful work to the house interiors thay were working on. The design lends itself well to any number of robe doors, and robe lay-outs. Like most Wright robes the doors are really very plain boards, available in a range of wood finishes. They are shown with a simple wooden hande per door, but we can use any handle you want. An interesting detail of the original screen was all the white angled shapes at the top of the doors were actually cut-outs. This maybe worked better on a screen where you would see the cut-out silhouette top profile, but maybe not work as well with robe doors.

Matching bedside tables, dressing table & doors;

Having showpiece furniture like these wardrobes is really stunning in a bedroom. You might want to consider matching bedside tables as well, to complete the look, or even other pieces of furniture such as a dressing table, TV cabinet, chest of drawers, etc. Extend the look even further and have a matching bedroom door(s).

Number of doors options;

The wardrobes can be built-in, which is the usual option these days and in keeping with Wright's usual practice, or freestanding. They can form a straight run, of any number of doors, or an L shape (with a diagonal unit in the middle if preferred. You caould have a 3 door either side of a door to an en-suite bathroom, for example. The interiors can be fitted anyway you want, with shelves, hanging rails, show racks, lightinging, etc. Made to order. We don't discuss sizes or prices until we've agreed a specification with a customer.

Interior fit-out;

The wardrobes can be fitted out any way you want, from simple single shelf and hanging rail to double hanging rails, shelved unit, chests of drawers, pull-down hanging rails, tie-rails, shoe racks, etc etc. This his n hers robes have hanging rails and chests of drawers; hers has a narrower chest to allow for some longer dresses and coats to hang fully.

Painted & stained sample board & wood finish options;

We have just finished producing a 4 door wardrobe with this design. Shown above is a painted sample board for the client. You can clearly see the level of accuracy required to produce the design. The wood colour is darker than the designs, as they wanted this. At an early stage we discuss the wood finish the client wants, which then translates into the painted sample board.

Design problem solving;

A web page like this shows many options for the number of doors your robes could have, and the layout of the robes. But design gets real when a client tells us the exact size they need the robes made to, and we have to make the design work the best with the sizes. So this customer wanted the robes made W 2M x ht 2.4M / W 6ft 8" x ht 8ft, which is pretty big. The width was borderline whether 3 or 4 doors would work best, and how best to accomodate the design with the height. We showed the client these 3 option; tall 3 doors/ 4 doors with top boxes/ or the preferred option of 4 doors with full height designs. Designing is a process that requires the client to be involved with. The bottom RH drawing shows the fit out for a pair of robes we're in the process of doing. But the interior fit out can be whatever you prefer.

Different artistic options;

The above designs are moving ever more away from the recognisable FLW dessign. But Masselink's link design is a piece of art, and as such it caan be interpreted in alternative colour combinations. Just to give you some more options to consider.
