These are some new FLW style wardrobes & bedroom furniture we designed. They have the typical Wright use of flat surfaces, but what makes them is the stylised designs on the doors & headboard. The design was inspired by a FLW chair, and it works remarkably well on larger scale furniture; it's surprising he didn't do this himself. We approached this design in the same way as CR Mackintosh approached some bedroom designs, especially for Hill House; namely 2 double wardrobes & bed integrated into a single look. There is access between the bed & robes. The headboard is one single panel, with a bedside shelf either side of the bed. The bed is a typical boxy un-fussy Wright style piece.

Wright was ever an artist, so we tried to incorporate something more artistic into the design. Below we've shown different colours options. The cut-out designs can be left as cut-outs, which looks very effective. But the cut-outs can also be backed in various ways to emphasis the shapes / colours more; for example painted, gold/silver/copper leafed, stained glass in a wide range of colours & textures, mirror, a lighter/darker wood, etc. The headboard cut-outs could be backed by perspex and backlight for interesting mood lighting. The stylised designs would also work well as applied decoration to the painted versions.

The robes can be finished in a wood finish, you can choose typical Wright woods like oak or mahogany, or whatever wood you like when ordering. We've shown many more colour ideas for these robes on another wardrobe page. The robes are usually supplied with matching handles. The wardrobes are shown as a freestanding 2 door robe, but could be a 3 or 4 door robe, corner robes or built-in. The interiors can be fitted anyway you want. Made to order.

As well as the robes being made in an oak / wood finish, the typical FLW materials, we've shown lots of painted versions of the same. Wright worked with Gene Masselink on many artisitc pieces & works combining painted finishes with wood, to produce some very striking pieces. We just ran with the same ideas. As well as having the stylised designs as cut-outs from the doors, they can look equally good if applied to the doors, especially for the colour versions. The robes are shown a range of muted more pastel Arts & Crafts - early 20's colours.
