CR Mackintosh - Oak bookcase

New CR Mackintosh oak wood finish freestanding display cabinet bookcase with stained glass door panels

This is a reproduction of a bookcase display unit Mackintosh designed for Michael Diack c. 1900. The basic structure is quite straight forward, but with Mackintosh's design skill it is a wonderful example of his work. This bookcase shares design similarities with some Biedermier bookcases, was the European influence working both ways? This is a museum level reproduction. The middle section is set back to enliven the design. This section has 2 large doors with sweeping curves to the bottom rails and leaded glass panels, features he used on several pieces of furniture around this time. The outer doors present a flush door with small panels of opaque glass at the top. There are no handles on the piece, the doors being opened with keys. The interiors are fitted with adjustable shelves. You can almost see the influence such a piece had on American designers following, like Stickley and Lloyd Wright. This cabinet was finished as the original one looks now, but we could finish it in a range of typical Mack colours/finishes as shown below. One of the pleasures of making furniture, apart from the long hard work, is taking a pile of boards, as shown below, and turning them into lovely pieces of furniture to enrich your day to day life. For anyone considering ordering such a piece please give consideration to access into your house/room, as this is quite a wide piece. We don't discuss sizes or pricing until we've agreed a spec with a customer.
