The inspiration for this medium height bookcase cupboard came from a washstand for the White bedroom at Hous Hill, c 1904. With some minor design changes it makes an excellent storage cupboard for a home office. Mack designed this at the height of his skills, and though quite a straight forward piece to make it is nevertheless quite decorative. He often used small panels with decorative elements in his furniture designs from this period. This cabinet uses marquetry veneered panels, in the doors and the sides, to give the piece elegance and interest. The marquetry design was adapted from a small stained glass panel he used in another washstand. It works well as marquetry, having some of the characteristics of some of his stencilled designs. The marquetry panels are on the inside as well, a quality touch.

Interior fit-out;

The bookcase can be fitted out as you want, from the plain shelves in the left hand version to the more fitted right hand version. The right hand version is fitted out more as the original washstand was, with a worktop and drawer beneath. The bookcases are painted white but could be another colour or a wood finish, we've shown a few typical Mack colours below. Bespoke made to order. We don't discuss sizes or pricing until we've agreed a spec. with a customer.

This bookcase design adapts very well to a PC workstation, for a home office. Either the laptop or screen can sit on the worktop. You could have a drawer or a pull-out keyboard shelf. The printer can sit below. The doors can open further out so you have more light and space, but it is easy to close the doors to hide everything behind a stylish piece of furniture. We also varied the drawer square colours and the marquetry panels.
