This is a beautiful Nouveau clock we produced a few years ago. Stylewise it is a mix of Nouveau & Aesthetic Movement. The small gables can be seen on Aesthetic Movement buildings across central London. The sunflower was another A.M. design element that carried on in the Nouveau period. It has a lovely architectural shape, especially with the splayed sides and turned columns (the columns & column bases require skill to cut them to the splay neatly). The coloumn bases are made from Mahogany, as it the ring surrounding the bezel.
As a designer maker there is a great sense of satisfaction from seeing a sketch turn into a proper working drawing & then into the finished piece. We produced a copy of this Aesthetic Movement clock for a client, the original of which would have likely been made in the 1870's or 80's. An interesting footnote to this is that the great Arts & Crafts architect designer CFA Voysey used the central panel of this clock as the basis for his own well known painted clock. Made to order.
